Dr. P. S. Balaji is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Institute of Technology Rourkela, an Institute of National Importance. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Curtin University, Australia, with doctoral research focused on vibration isolation and wire rope isolators.

Profile

An accomplished academician, researcher, and innovator, he possesses strong expertise in mechanical systems, structural dynamics, nonlinear vibration isolation, compliant metamaterials, and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies.

He has led and collaborated on several high-impact projects, including VTOL UAV design and analysis, indigenous drone aeromechanics development funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (₹1.55 Crores), and sponsored R&D initiatives with Indian Space Research Organisation, Coal India Limited, and Science and Engineering Research Board.

His contributions include two granted patents and over 25 high-impact international publications, including work in Nature Scientific Reports. He is also a DGCA-approved Remote Pilot, holding a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) for Small and Medium category drones issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and has actively led drone training and capacity-building programs to strengthen India’s indigenous drone ecosystem.

At Mechatecture Innovations Pvt. Ltd., he leads the integration of advanced drone technologies with mechanical and architectural innovation for industrial and defense applications.
